New Scrum implementations

A series of companies from different lines of business have started implementing Scrum into their projects.

KMD

People from KMD in Ballerup (see here...) have gone through larger scale courses in the introduction of Scrum. We have trained both Certified Scrum Mastere and Certified Scrum Product Owners on location. We have also carried out a one-day introduction for a larger group. KMD is in the process of implementing Scrum. There are many challenges, mainly because there is a dependency on a large codebase, which requires analysis in order for any changes to be made. Emerging results are, however, starting to become tangible.

Nomeco

Nomeco A/S in Copenhagen (see here...) provides services to pharmacies and hospitals, delivering medicin and other pharmaceutical products. At the same time they function as a storage hotel for a pharmaceutical manufacturer. All this is controlled by a rather comprehensive IT-system, which is constantly expanded and improved.

The business as a whole has turned to implementing the principles of Scrum into the work. The improvements are compiled in monthly-based sprints. Product Owners from the company prioritize the myriads of ideas developed. The Product Owner carries out extensive dialogues with those employees who request improvements. Users have also been included more directly in the testing of new functions, this is with the purpose of completing and concluding improvements more effeciently.

The Scrum Master enjoys a great amount of authority in the organization, protecting the team of development from interruptions as well as keeping everybody focused on the tasks, they have committed to.

One of the first process objectives was to gather the unavoidable support tasks on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. This provided almost four undisturbed days per week for the team. After some inital grumbling from other parts of the business, this was accepted and finally appreciated.

After only a short while, there seems to be an atmosphere of impetus in the company and an increased satisfaction in the work.

UnoMedical

Unomedical A/S in Osted on Seeland (see here...) are suppliers of pharmaceutical products, mostly plastics, for the health sector globally. Unomedical has started implementing Scrum into their projects. A few projects have already been carried out and a clear sense of improvement seems to be palpable. It is not a simple process, however, because projects in this line of business often have a lot of external dependencies - for instance subcontractors or government authorisations. Also, many expert domains exist, where others need to be consulted, before the project can proceed.

An ongoing development of work approaches is set in motion and new practical solutions are invented in the process.
