History

Scrumcan be traced back to war production during World War II in the US through Toyota's production model and even more their product development model from then on to "The new-new product development game" by Hirotaka Takeuchi and Ikujiro Nonaka in the mid 80's.

In the early 1990's Jeff Sutherland and Ken Schwaber developed independently methods which resulted in the creation of Scrum. In 1995 Sutherland and Schwaber presented Scrum to the public in a joint paper at OOPSLA. In the following years Sutherland and Schwaber worked together on developing Scrum further to the Scrum we know today and to Ken Schwabers book "Agile Software Development with SCRUM" from 2001.

The word Scrum was first used by Takeuchi and Nonaka in 1986 where they compare the high productive Teams with the scrum formation know from rugby.
